If we do have an event I think the thing I will miss most will be discussions with others of different opinions. I’m very opinionated, if you are unclear, and have very specific views on the world. Like everyone my views are sometime based on ignorance, sometimes on a little knowledge and sometimes on a lot of knowledge. That doesn’t make me right though. It is possible for people to have the same knowledge yet come to a different conclusion. Discussing the reasons behind that decision can sometimes cause you or the other person to change their view. Not always though and the statement ‘There is nothing as queer as folk’ is definitely true.
People prioritise things differently as well. Sometimes it doesn’t matter but other times it does and I like things done the right way. It is interesting trying to work out what people consider important and what isn’t.
Of course it is much easier to stand aloof when you do not have anything at risk. You can look at what others are doing and see when it the most logical way to go whilst they struggle. There will be a lot of that after an event as well as people have to make some hard decisions about friends and family.
The reason I was thinking about this was I was thinking about what sort of community that we could put together after an event for the future proofing part of survival. Only thing is I think it looks like I am setting up a dictatorship, albeit a local one, and I don’t like the sound of that. On the other hand look at the mess we are in today because we let idiots vote and they vote continually for liars and cheats who make used car salesmen look like pillars of the community.
As a libertarian I believe that we should have a small state and it should only deal with justice and defence. Should our community be set up the same way? I’m leaning that way but very aware that people just cannot leave others alone. They have to make the world fit their views and those that do not conform find rules made just to force them to do something to meet others requirements. Democracy being two wolves and a lamb deciding what is for dinner.
Anyway, I have decided that I want a community leader, and surprise surprise, I don’t want it to be me. I just want to be left alone. I’ll join in if I want but knowing human nature I suspect I will be roped in to do things I don’t think I should be doing. I’m leaning towards a leader but with a small group of advisors who can discuss and bring other views to the table but I also like a leader for continuity and consistency. So every year five people are voted in. A leader selected from them and they provide the manpower for the justice system and general leadership till the next year. Referendums on everything like the Swiss do. No leader allowed more than one consecutive term. A charter like the Magna Carta, the US Constitution, the Bill of Rights and other like documents. The best of the best so no EUSSR stuff.
What do you think would be the best setup for a community? What should be in our charter?
A government system better than democracy is an interesting idea.
I’ve been thinking about this for the past few days and the best I’ve been able to come up with is a vote at the *end* of a politicians term to decide whether they failed to meet their promises and if so some suitable punishment (such as imprisonment).

I assume that during the term there is a feedback mechanism so that they know how it is going? I do like the sound of that but who would do it? You could go all the way through your term with stars and people thinking you are great then something happens that is outwith your control and bam you are in jail. Doesn’t sound right to me.
Maximum consecutive terms, no major decisions unless by referendum, recall and no special laws. Justice is blind in every respect. Every law they make applies to the leaders, their agents, etc. as well.
I like the idea of being able to imprison Tony Blair for lying to us about there being WMD in Iraq. He said “trust me, they’re there”, we trusted him; they weren’t yet he ends up with a cushy consultancy job for an oil company.
The problem with referendums is that many decisions are complex and require a lot of background knowledge. The majority of people are too busy, too stupid or too lazy to do the research into the issue (even assuming it’s not complicated by national security). You’d end up with the media ‘advising’ (telling) people how to vote on referendums and the media already has too much control over the sheeples minds.

The Swiss do not have that problem. They have a high turn out for referendums and you will always have stupid people. It seems that there are a lot more of them than there are of us. At least with several referendums they can learn quicly but with it being once every 4 years the lies and deceit get forgotten in their minds. Idiots.
