Independence Day

I hope our American friends are having a good time over there during Independence day. It is a time to remember the heroes around the world who fight for our freedoms and not just our American cousins. We can all however appreciate the sacrifices these people make on our behalf.

Pity they don’t fight the biggest threat to our freedoms, the government, but that is another story.

I’m off now to have some Turkey.

Ironic that they celebrate Independence from the UK but don’t commiserate the next war for independence that they lost. That of course being the civil war which was about a states rite to be independent from the federal government … they keep loosing that more and more each day.

I like to Celebrate the war of 1812 when we whupped them theur colonials. :). Americans in general are really nice folk, but their historians ………….. Still not everyone can be blessed by god and be born British !!! 🙂

Yes, that is true but that is politicians for you. I’m thinking of the patriots who go out and put their lives on the line.

Yes many have died for our freedom, but its obvious from the situation that prevails, that they died in vain! SD, I hope you enjoyed your Turkey. Kenneth Eames.

I wonder why the Americans dont have memorials or remember the two greatest generals in the war of independnce such as General Rochambeau whose expert siege troops gave the comlonies their major victory at Yorktown ? Perhaps the fact that it was he was French along with his 20,000nexpert siege trooops that defeated the 10,000 Brits that they dont like.

The yanks do have a memorial at Saratoga dedicated to ” The Best Soldier Of The Revoluition” but it has no name on it because its for Gen Benedict Arnold.

    Kenneth,

It appears from history that freedom is at best merely rented, never bought 🙁

Freedom is something hard fought for but easily lost.

Somebody once told me that voting should me made compulsory. I told them that my father fought WW2 so I could make choices including whether to vote or not.
