Been busy today putting the finishing touches to the contact database. It’s almost ready to go once the final testers finish feeding back. Only outstanding issue is a question on how the country boundaries are worked out. I’m using this county map as it seems the latest one returned from Google and Bing. Politicians change them all the time to gain electoral advantage ensure the demographics are correct. I’d like to get it right before we go live as changing it means starting again.
In other exciting news I also finished planting my strawberrys, peas, courgettes and potatoes and cut away all the out of control brambles and I will have the scars to prove it as sometimes gloves are just not enough when you are wearing thin jeans and a t-shirt.
That’s a really nice map of the counties of Britain.
Either you should rename the site SurvivalBritain or risk upsetting our UK members from Northern Ireland, The Falklands, the Rock of Gibraltar and the other areas of the UK that are outside Britain.
I’ve already included Northern Ireland into the database. Didn’t think about the others though. I’ll wait till someone from there raises the issue.
Although anyone who lives in the Falklands can teach us a thing or two about survival.
I think you’ll find that the United Kingdom is England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, while Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands (as well as 12 other territories) are “British Overseas Territories”. This means that “although they do not form part of the United Kingdom itself, fall under its jurisdiction” to quote Wikipedia.
Sounds like it is covered then.
Think we gave it back but have been to Gozo off Malta a few times and that place is well rigged for self sufficiency. Seemed to be allotments everywhere with free land and i recon most have no mortgages…Something well lost back here though hey!
JM,
Welcome to the site. There are plenty of allotments over here. They lost popularity over time but I understand they have perked up a bit now and are now scarce again. I wonder why?
I’d look at getting one but my death rate is bad enough when I see them keeling over in the garden. Don’t know how they would do if I only seen them every few days.
