Nuggets

Couple of nuggets of information I’ve gathered that I’m passing on. Might be interesting, may not, depending on your interest.

First of all for those with Hotmail addresses. I don’t know what is going on but it seems that I am regularly getting issues with the automated sending of mail generated by new replies to comments on both the forum and the main site. I can only assume that Hotmail has the sites tagged as spammers or something. So if you are using a Hotmail address then bear this in mind.

Still on email addresses. As you know I manually register accounts on the forum. You supply a username and an email and I register them on the forum and send you an email with the password. Over the months since this has been implemented I have had five people applying with invalid email addresses. I will be charitable here and assume that it is a simple typing mistake that leaves an invalid email address but regardless it is pointless trying to register without a valid email, I send out the account details, including the password by email. No valid email address, no login information by email and you can’t login. Pointless but I still spend less time than dealing with the spam on an open registration so it’s still a win for me.

The crossbow article seems to have gone down well. Lots of interesting feedback and I think that between the article and the comments most of us know what we need to do in that area. That is the true power of sites like this. User involvement. Lets keep it up.

Finally, the North West meet is still on for Sat the 30th for those that are interested. I’ve selected the pub and those that are interested can have a quiet evening sharing shaggy dog stories and bonding. The pub in Chester services worked out to be a hotel and unsuitable. I’ll be there from about 1800.
