The Gingery book set contains instructions on how to build your own workshop tools, from lathes to coil winding. The authors site can be found here.
Basically these books start from nothing. You build your own cast iron foundry and then cast your own rudimentary lathe which you use to make a shaper then using these tools you make a mill and so on until you have a complete workshop. My only complaint about them is the quality of the printing and binding for the price.
