Couple of nuggets of information I’ve gathered that I’m passing on. Might be interesting, may not, depending on your interest.
In the last exciting episode of Nuggets I said I was applying for some free solar panels from A Shade Greener. Well I got my answer it seems that I am not in the coverage area. This time they helpfully supplied a coverage file and said if I liked them on Facebook they would keep me informed if they included my postcode. Despite the tempting offer of Facebook I just ignored it. If you are interested in the offer then have a look at the postcodes covered and apply via the website if you are. Let us know how it goes on if you do.
Installing Bitcoin has made me relook at my security and I’ve decided to rebuild my cryptobook. Basically a laptop with Linux and an encrypted boot USB. When I get my mind around it I’ll write it up as an article but as I’ve not done it for a while I have to remember what I need to do. In the meantime I’ve been playing with Bitcoin for a week now and I have 0.001 BT. At an exchange rate of $13.5 to 1BT I have $0.01 more than last week. Things are looking up. If you have any unwanted Bitcoins then rather than just forget them send them to me via this account ‘1Bzu6uor1m3jXFgHJ7uQzBvtCkkRKVvP3i’
I’ve noticed that a couple of people have used the contact facility now. Anyone want to give some feedback? Positive or Negative it will be appreciated.
Just to keep you up to date the overbearing EU have come out with a new law regarding cookies. It seems we must ask permission from every user and cannot use cookies without their permission. As you are aware from my cookie policy I don’t use them myself but WordPress does. As we have till May 2012 to implement I shall await a update to WordPress to enable this. If one is not forthcoming by April 2012 I will decide which way I want to go, add a step into the web page myself to display the message and modify my cookie policy. No law is too stupid to ignore. I’m leaning towards making them a requirement for browsing the site. Let me know what you think.
What does the site use cookies for?
I sometimes like to browse from an “in private browsing” window and I gather one of the things it does it not keep cookies (or any other history).

When I indulge in these hacked things, I’ll gladly send them to you.
i was told these coins can be picked up free at some sites why dont you ask for real money
Cookies aren’t really a problem most of the time, after all I don’t really care if ebay knows that I also browse the Amazon website. What I don’t want them to know, however, is which bank I use, so before I go onto the HSBC website (no, that’s not the bank I actually use) I run CCleaner to get rid of all the cookies I’ve accrued from my daily perusal of the interweb. I also run it before I go on any other “sensitive” site, then run it again every time I close my browser. I’ve used CCleaner for years, it’s free, it works well, and there are some other tools in it which can be useful. Just make sure you download it from a reputable site: I prefer to use ComputerActive as I know I’ll only download the program I want and not a bunch of Trojans at the same time.
Skvez,
As I make clear in the cookie policy I do not use cookies. WordPress uses cookies so you can tailor your experience when you login. As I don’t let anyone login then it is only the initial cookie work WordPress does that is in issue.
In addition if, as you do, anyone doesn’t want cookies thay can, by a miracle of modern technology, get their browser to refuse them. It is another nanny state edict.
Fred,
Thanks for that. I shall await your contribution to my next penny with abated breath.
Maddog,
Not quite as easy as that. There is one site that does give them away free and that is to get you started. Other sites give them away when you fill out forms, or order items.
I don’t want to ask for real money, I don’t even have a tip jar because I want to provide a free service. I pick up all my own costs and pay for them myself.
Moosedog,
Cookies are not that much of a problem. I use a different system for my bank and storing my financial data and I’m going to be upgrading it soon and producing an article so it will be something you can use as well. That way all my real stuff is as secure as it can be. If you want details now email me and I’ll tell you want I am doing. Much better than your method.
To my next Bitcoin, you mean?
Fred,
Yes. That is what I meant. Although in Bitcoin lingo 0.001 is a Milli-BitCoin which doesn’t sound as good.
Skean: Thankyou but extra security is a pain in the posterior with my bank, I end up having to go through a whole bunch of questions to prove who I am. I just keep their cookies undeleted so their system recognises me and I only have to enter my password to gain access to my millions. As I only use one computer for my bank account and that’s well protected anyway I’m happy with the way things are. I’ll be interested to see your system when the article comes out though.
Moosedog,
Fair enough. I’m just paranoid. Too much time working in secure places.
A dose of paranoia can be a very healthy thing, especially in today’s society. I guess that’s why I visit your site!
I suspect most of us are now as we are keeping our heads down whilst we research and collect a vast amount of supplies.
