I’ve been away for a few days on business. This trip involved a lot of driving through Wales and I quite enjoyed the countryside. Very nice it was; even the flooded parts.
While driving I was surprised by the amount of land, homes and smallholdings that were up for sale. It appears that many people are selling up so this could very well be the time to buy your homestead. It may very well be that you can’t afford too and that is understandable but for those that can; land is going to be the new gold. Gold itself is just too expensive, you can’t eat it and not everyone will recognise its worth. Having some land means you can grow your own food, build your own home and make a new life for yourself. You won’t have to leave the comfort of your home and risk travelling through potentially hostile territory to find a new home.
So now I am back home I’ve tasked myself with looking around and see what land is up for sale. There are several websites but most of those stick covenants on their sales which limit what you can do on the land. Most of them aren’t really an issue but I would prefer no restrictions because you never know what is going to happen. I’ve gone online and there are quite a few interesting properties for sale and some are even in my price range.
It is a pity that the people that have the money to do these things don’t seem to want to leave the cities and few of us who do are able to. Personally, I would like to but I need to work in IT to make a living and living on a farm is not good for me at the moment although I do want a fall back plan that involves land not too far away. As I live up near North Wales I’m looking at some land out there are there is some. I think I’ll drive around over the weekend and see what I can find. From my drive through Wales I think there will be quite a bit.
then it will be down to see how much I can get a loan for for some basic land. Would have thought it would be good collateral but we will see.
Houses or land as collatoral is not really in vogue at the moment.. In Greece they are becoming pretty worthless at the moment as no-one wants to buy and so prices have sunk below what anyone is prepared to sell for. That makes them worthless financilly at the moment. If things go downhill over there, then this situation can only get worse. Land or houses are really only worth what it means to you to live in/on it in times of crisis. Why burden yourself with financial market slavery now, when surplus land and houses will be abundent after a serious event. Money could be spent elsewhere now, without financial parasites living off your back. If you have spare cash and want to start living the good life now, then fair enough, otherwise it could be a great diversion. IMO. TL

land is going to be worthless, as we dont know when or where something will hit, a big part of uk is below water level so massive floods or something in that area would remove so much of the land. And as most people are getting lazy when something happens the chances are that few will be able to survive in long term hardships which will mean that land will be open to those who know how to use it for the good of those who will pull through it. I weould rather get the seeds and tools to start afresh when we will need it the most
This is only MY opinion and while I agree with the views above, Ive had my holding for 11 years now and the advantages in my opinion far out way the cash value, Ive had time and cash to build and work out diffrent plans for multiple events while also supplying myself with a living. The view I get from SD and other preppers that use this site is that they have plans in place to use neighbours property/gardens etc, what if your neighbours stick around! Atleast with having land or holding supplies and plans are already in place. Also allowing my children the freedom to learn skills they will need afer an event and enjoying a heathier life than most children have today. Just a quick word of caution there are alot of factors to work through with a holding so I would’nt encourage people to rush in to it, Ive seen too many smallholders fail, so do research. LIVE FREE. It may end up having no cash value after an event. However, like everything else we spend now we are doing it to prepare for the future and having some land where you can prep, hide out and ride the aftermath of an event is worth its weight in gold. It’s a saying. Gold will be worthless imo after an event. Land will be the basis of value because having it will mean you can grow your own food, farm your own livestock. I don’t mean it will appraciate in value significantly as a current day investment. Although if there is no event that could be true too.
I CAN SEE THE SENSIBLENESS OF WHAT IS BEING SAID HERE, BUT ONCE AGAIN I WOULD POINT OUT THAT MANY SWATHES OF PEOPLE, COLD, HUNGRY, DESPERATE WILL BE OUT ON THE LAND LOOKING FOR FOOD & SHELTER.
YOUR PROPERTY WILL BE OVER RUN WITH PEOPLE WHO WILL HAVE NO MORALS OR ETHICAL BOUNDARIES.
IF YOU WOULD HAVE A PLACE IN THE COUNTRY, HOW LONG DO YOU THINK YOUR VEG PATCHES & LIVE STOCK WOULD LAST?.
DO YOU THINK THESE PEOPLE WILL JUST WALK ON BY, VIEWING YOUR LIVESTOCK AS A PRETTY PETTING ZOO – IF SO YOU ARE DELUSIONAL, HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU HAVE TO BE REMINDED THAT IT WILL NOT BE A “GOOD LIFE” SITUATION, IF YOU HAVE & THEY NEED, YOU WILL LOOSE, EVEN IF YOU CAN PROTECT IT AS THEY PASS BY IN THE DAYTIME, DO YOU THINK A STARVING DESPERATE GANG WILL NOT COME BACK?.
WHAT YOU MAY HAVE IN MIND TO DO IS ADMIRABLE, BUT NOT IN ANYWAY REALISTIC.

You will see that my wholephilosophy is based around keeping your head down for a year and a half and this includes when you are on your own land. As far as animals are concerned you can only do so much. They may be lost so spreading them about makes sense. I do see it as being realistic and it is not quite the way you impiy. It isn’t perfect but what is?
We are in agreement with you on the hordes and the crazies. We are planning as much as we can to handle this.
As far as an adventure. I have no doubt that you are right. many do see it as that and they will be sorely disappointed. However, by prepping even a little they will be in a better state than most and there is not much else I can do about peoples attitudes.
YOU WOULD BE FAR BETTER BUYING A ISOLATED ISLAND AS A GROUP AND BE PREPARED TO DEFEND IT!

I agree with you 100%. To survive long term preparations need to support our staying out of sight of the starving hordes for a significant period of time. A year, maybe two? And when we do eventually emerge we will have to be prepared to literally fight for our lives every single day.
The more I prep, the more I realise that the unpleasant truth is that in order for my preparations to be successful I and my clan will eventually be forced into the necessity of killing or be killed, raiding or be raided. If that is somthing we cannot morally accept we may as well spend all our current resources in having a good time and hoping that the S never actually hits the F…
