Found some quotes from this guy that I thought were relevant to us as Survivalists. I’ve added some to the quotes section.
Buying books would be a good thing if one could also buy the time to read them in: but as a rule the purchase of books is mistaken for the appropriation of their contents.
Only too true. In our situation though I think that having a book you neither have read nor understand is not such a big issue. Someone somewhere will understand it or you can learn and use it to improve your lot. As long as the subject is worthwhile. So no flower arranging books.
Compassion is the basis of morality.
This is what will be the basis for morality as it was before. Not an artificial construct made up by whingey whiney do gooders as it is now.
As the biggest library if it is in disorder is not as useful as a small but well-arranged one, so you may accumulate a vast amount of knowledge but it will be of far less value than a much smaller amount if you have not thought it over for yourself.
He meant that we can collect knowledge but it is not as valuable as if we understood it. I’m looking at the library reference and saying for our needs a vast collection of knowledge that is in disarray is of limited use to us. A smaller well ordered library where we can find what we need is better than a massive collection that is disorganised enough so we cannot find what we need. Don’t just collect; sort and document.
and finally a bit of humour
Martyrdom is the only way a man can become famous without ability.
Politics obviously was different then from now. 🙂
“Martyrdom is the only way a man can become famous without ability” Clearly also before the days of things like X-factor.
Skvez,
I think all quotes like these have been proven wrong in the modern day. Somehow I wonder if it has improved us or not.
